One Shining Moment!

For those of us who were caught up in March Madness, and many were, it has come to an end. The games this year were very exciting, and everyone had their favorites. It was UConn's shining moment last night, but all the teams gave us so much to cheer about.

Today, we watched a brief film clip about our solar system to build some background information for this week's story The Night of the Pomegranate. In our story, the character Harriet watches the sky to study Mars in order to complete a project at school. She learns much more from her observations than what she could learn by creating a model. New vocabulary were reviewed and include constellation, marveled, orbit, relative, solar, and universe. Since we're all familiar with what a pomegranate is, we're wondering what that has to do with the story.

Our Spelling list this week is a tough one, but very important. We are studying homophones. Our homework, given yesterday, is due tomorrow. Each word needs to be used in a sentence.

We visited our library today for a lesson and book exchange. The new nine week period has begun, and we need to work on our AR goals to be included in the reward days.

Our new McD's Cafe book is Pictures of Hollis Woods. The book is available as an e-book, for those who have Nooks, Kindles, or iPads and are interested. We will begin on Thursday in McD's.

Today is Report Card day! The report cards are ours to keep. We only need to return the signed envelopes. Report card envelopes contain the report card, fluency letter, sealed health report card, and in some cases an achievement certificate.

Unit prices and ratios were the topic in Math today, while in Science, we reviewed the physical properties of matter.

Our Who's On First clips were completed today. Please look for them on the blog soon! The Pirates'Opening Day is coming!

Social Studies - Travel Journal #3 is due April 19th.
