Pay Day!

It's report card day! Although many of you keep up with grades on Power School, it's always nice to see it in print, with achievement certificates, fluency letters, and all. It is your pay day! Enjoy!

The morning passed by quickly, as we were busy with quizzes and prompt writing, Mrs. Carroll's Technology class, and more. Before we could blink an eye, it was time for exploratory and lunch. We were extremely excited for the afternoon because many talented students of our school were going to perform in our annual talent show. The show was fantastic! What a great way to end our week!

Homework:
Reading - Read November in The Wednesday Wars. Complete your role for Thursday.
Social Studies - Study your chapter review pages and guides for Monday's Chapter 3 test on Latin America's cultures.

For the Record

For the record, we're enjoying our novel The Wednesday Wars. Holling's relationships are unfolding, and our thoughts about the story have sparked interesting discussions in class. At the end of cafe, we created records on which we will record our thoughts about the story. In the end, we will create a song title that best fits the story. Why records? That's what Holling would have listened to!

During our class meeting we had a discussion about spreading rumors and gossip. The class heard a fable about gossip that illustrated how one rumor can fly to many corners and be impossible to retrieve. It is better not to spread gossip in the first place. It's a form of bullying that can be so hurtful. Next week, we will focus on the important elements of friendship.

Homework:
Reading - Study. There will be a quiz on vocabulary and our story The Day of the Turtle tomorrow. Also, read the chapter November in The Wednesday Wars and complete your role for next Thursday.
Math - Complete practice sheets.
Spelling - Study. Test tomorrow on your assigned list.
Science - Element word search due on Monday.
TOMORROW, YOU WILL RECEIVE YOUR REPORT CARDS.

Dinner and Dialogue

Social Studies students enjoyed pretending they were dining in a Latin American restaurant as we presented our Dinner and Dialogue assignment for our classmates. Some students really performed, including Macey, who actually went to the trouble of learning some Spanish on her own, and Kylah, who danced to music from her group's country. The skits were very entertaining, and we liked sharing information from the unit. Enjoy the slideshow of our skits!

During Language Arts, we reviewed our story 'The Day of the Turtle' and continued our reading and roles for 'The Wednesday Wars.' We will be discussing October, our second part of the reading, during cafe on Thursday.
