New Week, New Novel!
This coming week, Team Enterprise will move into new literature groups and begin a new novel in McD's Cafe. The new novel is Good Night, Maman. I gave an introduction to this novel this past Friday, but we will be learning more about the historical period as the week and the novel begins.
The film clip above shows an amazing artist, Kseniya Simonova, who uses a sand tray to tell a story on Ukraine's Got Talent. What is her story? We will talk about this more in the coming week.

So Many Things to Love About School!
We wrapped up our final roles for The Westing Game today in McD's Cafe! Above are pictures taken earlier in the week of our actors in the skits. Enjoy!
The Westing Game books will be collected on Monday, and our new books will be distributed. Our new novel, Good Night, Maman, was written by Norma Fox Mazer who is a Newbery Honor-Winning Author for After the Rain. The story is historical fiction, and the main character's experiences are true to those of some Jews during World War II. We are looking forward to this interesting story.
Today in Math, we worked on Measurement, using protractors and rulers in lab. In class, we also reviewed adding and subtracting fractions, including mixed numbers.
Have a great weekend!

Ready for the Red Carpet!
Team Enterprise seems to be ready for the red carpet! Today in McD's Cafe, we watched a movie of our own Westing Game performances. Everyone was entertained by the movie, which was shown on our big screen. We are looking for a way to add this movie to the links section of our blog soon.
Following our movie, we watched Get a Clue, which is a movie based on The Westing Game. The movie was entertaining, but it differs in many ways from the book. As we watched, we took notes on plot differences and similarities. Mrs. Mac paused the movie several times to discuss what we noticed. Our class was really on the ball! Nothing got past us! Tomorrow, we will use our notes in working with our group on a small project. In addition, we will complete The Westing Game in our final literature circle discussions.
Because of the delay today, Mrs. Haddox taught Math to all of us. We are learning how to add and subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators. Remember to see if the denominators can "talk" to each other. Do they need a translator?? And take your time to look at the operation. Is it adding or subtracting?
Homework:
Math - Pg. 208 (#7-16) Answers may have mixed numbers! Turn in all work! Also, pg. 45 from the workbook.
Language Arts - Be prepared with your final role for McD's Cafe! I hope you enjoyed The Westing Game!

Sergeant Cross
Sergeant Cross came and introduced us to this year's D.A.R.E. program. He will be visiting us once a week for the next 10 weeks. We enjoyed his humor and his valuable information!
In the afternoon, Mrs. Haddox reviewed our second Math Benchmark. Overall, we all did very well. She took each question that we missed and reviewed how to correctly solve the problem.
Homework:
Writing: Page 25, complete the business letter for you to apply to a job.

They're Full of Hot Air!
Have we found a fuel solution for the cars of the future? Hot air seems to be an abundant resource! Our cars seemed to fly using hot air! We had fun running them in the gymnasium today. We demonstrated how far and fast they could go, and it was fun!
Seraphine and Matthew had the longest distance traveled with their cars. Seraphine's car traveled 36 feet and Matthew's car traveled 47 feet! Congratulations to Matthew who will receive a prize. The two fastest balloon cars were from Camden who had 5 seconds/feet and Carson who had 5.9 seconds/feet. Congratulations to Carson, who will receive a prize!
We had some very creative and unique cars, as you can see from the pictures. However, the prize for the best looking car goes to Lexey. Check out her car...it is a peacock!
Congrats to all the students for wonderful projects well done!

Passing the Test!
The Math classes worked hard on their Chapter 3 test today. Mrs. Haddox could smell the wood burning! She was very impressed on how we apply our knowledge to find the LCM, GCF, and convert decimals to fractions. Tomorrow, we will start adding fractions.
Wow!!! What a collection of balloon cars we have. We are very anxious to race them tomorrow in the gym. Remember to have your worksheets filled out by tomorrow afternoon. There will be three winners so stayed tuned!
Review was the name of the game in Social Studies today. We demonstrated what we have learned about the time period known as the Renaissance in European history. We worked in teams to answer questions. Each winner received a rare reward - a homework pass.
In Writing class, we pretended to be searching for a summer job. We are writing letters this week to a prospective employer to apply for the job. Our main objective will be to stay focused in our paragraph writing....and to be hired, of course (smile).
Homework:
Math: Decimal Enrichment worksheet and page 205, 7-16
Science: Balloon Cars and packet
Language Arts: Finish reading The Westing Game! Complete your last role for this story.
Social Studies: Continue to review your notes. Your test will be on Wednesday.
