Heinz Field Trip!
Mrs. Haddox's homeroom had an awesome field trip to Heinz Field today! We supported our Black and Gold by wearing our jerseys. Our tour guide, Lew, was full of interesting facts about the Steelers and the Rooneys. Did you know that the "33" on the sidelines represents the year 1933 when Mr. Rooney bought the Steelers? And that the Rooneys always go out into the concession stand to buy their hot dogs right before the game? Conrad was listening really closely to Lew because he won a Steelers football for a question that he answered at the end of the tour. Even though the weather was cold and damp, we had a great day at Heinz Field!
Field Trip to Heinz Field!
Since we are all great Steeler fans, our field trip today was particularly sweet! The whole sixth grade went on a guided tour of Heinz Field! We had a great time! Above are pictures of group 204. Group 202's pictures will be posted by Mrs. Haddox tonight! Enjoy!

Take Your Child to Work Day!
We had a fun day today meeting children who came to work with their parents! Mrs. Haddox's children enjoyed the day by helping her pass out papers and keep score at the hockey game! Mr. Abbondanza's daughters also visited our Social Studies and Language Arts classes to participate in our learning activities.
During McD's Cafe, we created a graffiti wall with thoughts about our novel, Pictures of Hollis Woods. We decorated it with our impressions of characters and simple drawings related to the plot of the story. Our discussion groups worked hard with everyone contributing something of value. Our guests joined in with the activities!
The Scope students enjoyed the day with Miss Torchia at a Literature Festival. They made us proud by taking first place!

Fractions, Decimals, and Percents!
Today, math classes changed decimals into percents and fractions. We learned that when you convert a decimal to a percent, you multiply by 100. When you change a percent to a decimal, you divide by 100. We are going to use all this knowledge to create a small math project soon!
Science classes today concluded the section on Atoms and Elements. We will start to review our section next week. Mrs. Haddox was very impressed today with our hard work in the computer lab on our flyers. She is looking forward to seeing our presentations. Do not forget that the Element Presentations are May 2!
In Language Arts, we read a touching story, A Brother's Promise. It was hard to get through without tears in our eyes. We also watched a brief film clip about The Statue of Liberty to help us prepare for this historical fiction selection.
Our writings about our favorite places are on display at the top of the steps by our rooms! Enjoy!

Percentages and Periodic Table!
Math classes reviewed how to find the percent of something. We used shaded images to created a ratio with 100. Science classes worked on their Element Flyers in the computer lab. Mrs. Haddox is quite impressed with the information we have found! The creativity was overflowing in that lab. The flyers are quite impressive!
This afternoon we enjoyed shopping at the book fair. We purchased books, pencils, pens, and crazy erasers. Mrs. Haddox even found a new car poster for our room.
Our new story this week is one of Mrs. Mac's favorites. It's a historical fiction selection relating to our Statue of Liberty called A Brother's Promise. The skill for the week is plot, so we practiced identifying Conflict, Rising Action, Climax, and the Resolution of a short story. We will continue to practice identifying these important story elements throughout this week and next. New spelling words were given today, as well. This will be our list for this week and next.
In Social Studies we are learning about the earliest people in Africa. We took some notes and had discussions about how civilizations came to be. This lesson will continue tomorrow.
