An Expert in Solving Mysteries!

Team Enterprise enjoyed a visit from Detective Wybranowski today! Since he works to solve mysteries in his job, we thought he could help us be more aware of clues as we read The Westing Game. He shared so much with us today! We learned that although some mysteries never get solved, many do!

Clues are gathered in many ways! Sometimes people are interviewed, and detectives pay attention to what people say, as well as their body language or facial expressions. Many clues are gathered at the scene of the crime! Sometimes the person who commits a crime leaves behind fingerprints, shoe prints, or even their own wallet! We thought that this was pretty funny!

Detective Wybranowski shared many stories, but he also shared a short mystery about missing cookies. Mrs. McIlvaine and Mrs. Haddox were caught with clue spray on their fingers, so the crime was solved. We all enjoyed cookies, once they were found, and Detective Wybranowski visited our discussion groups to listen.

Thank you, Detective Wybranowski, for your time and expert insight! We feel safer knowing that you're on the job in North Strabane!

Lowest Common Multiple

In Math,we nicknamed one of the methods for finding the Least Common Multiple the "L" Method, another the "Balloon" Method, and another the "Biggest Loser" method. Whatever you want to call it, it makes finding the LCM a lot easier. Make sure you multiply all the numbers inside the "L" to find the LCM!

N.S.I.'s Geography Bee took place in the gymnasium this morning! One representative from each classroom met to answer questions posed before the entire student body, teachers, and parents. What brave students they were to think through these questions with so many watching! Everyone enjoyed the Bee! Team Enterprise was very proud of our two representatives, Keegan and Shane. We were thrilled when Keegan won first place! He will now move on in the competition by taking a multiple choice test. We wish him the best of luck!

We wrapped up our second Benchmark test in Reading today. We also made great progress on our Wanted posters and I Have a Dream writings. We are looking forward to tomorrow's McD's Cafe! A special guest will join us as an expert in gathering clues!

Slip Sliding Away!

Our world was coated in ice this morning! How beautiful it looked, and yet it was a bit dangerous. The two hour delay was just what we needed to arrive safely.

Our team took our second Reading Benchmark test today. Mrs. McIlvaine was so impressed with our team's efforts during this test. We all worked carefully reading the stories, answering the questions, and highlighting text to support our answers. We also organized, drafted, and edited our writing before making a final copy of our prompt. The time and effort we gave was rewarded. Mrs. Mac gave us an extra five mania minutes! Woooohoooo!!! Now, we have to keep them!

Homework:
Language Arts - Your Wanted posters are due on Monday. Read pages 31-47 in The Westing Game, and complete your role for Thursday.
Social Studies - I Have a Dream.... due this Thursday
Wellness - Fitness poster due on Thursday.
Math - LCM worksheet due tomorrow.

I Have a Dream!

Team Enterprise celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by learning more about his life and work. We learned that he was a peaceful and powerful minister who led his people through difficult times. He inspired people and told them to remember that love is the key to the problems of the world. Mrs. McIlvaine shared Martin's Big Words, a book written by Doreen Rappaport, and Dr. King's famous speech. We discussed, if Dr. King were alive today, would he feel that his dream has been realized? We also thought about our dreams for the world. What would we like to see changed? If you visit our hallway, you will soon see a display of our dreams for the world.

The Westing Game has so many interesting characters, and we are becoming suspicious of some for the way they are behaving in the story. Our team will be creating Wanted Posters to display who we most suspect is responsible for Mr. Westing's murder. The project is worth 25 points. Two winners will be chosen from each class for their ability to create the most interesting display.

Math classes had a review quiz on Chapter 3 Sections 1-3. Mrs. Haddox was quite impressed with our assessment. Room 204 started to find the Least Common Multiple. We found two methods to find the LCF. Soon we will be applying our skills to fractions.
