Safety on the School Bus
Teams throughout the school reviewed procedures for safe bus behavior with one of our excellent district bus drivers. Students boarded the bus and listened to the bus driver talk about bus rules, the location of special tools, how the exit doors and windows work, and how to exit safely in an emergency. We could tell by his lesson that he really cares about each student's well being. Our bus drivers are very special people.
Our vocabulary words, relating to Africa, were applied today in context. We also created a map showing important physical features in our groups. We identified and colored major rivers, mountains, deserts, etc.
Math classes reviewed the Order of Operations in class today. Please Excuse Our Dear Aunt Sally!! We enjoyed taking turns solving the problems. Room 204 also tried their hand at using a ruler to measure in cm and inches.
Please note: Student's math work has been collected in their PSSA folder to review. The assignments will not be included in their Friday Folder.

Commutative, Associative, Identity, and Distributive!
Properties! Properties!
In Math class today, we reviewed the many math properties. Commutative Property is the order in which the numbers are added or multiplied and does not affect the sum. Associative property is the way in which the numbers are grouped and does not affect the sum. We also reviewed the Distributive Property and then tried our hand at identifing the different properties. We also quizzed each other using our PSSA folder information.
During Language Arts, we were happy to learn the results of our Benchmark #3 Test. Mrs. McIlvaine went over each item with us to make sure that everyone understood the answers. We were able to ask questions, look back to find text support of our answers, and reason each answer. We did extremely well on the test, and hopefully this will carry over as we apply our skills on the PSSA. This test was a great confidence booster.
The afternoon time was spent in learning centers. For math, we reviewed Divisibility Rules and Exponents. We also used line graphs and double line graphs. At our Language stations, we practiced interpreting graphics in text and wrote to a given prompt relating to Born Worker, our most recent story. Our Social Studies stations helped us to more readily recognize our African vocabulary words and allowed us time to research for our Travel Journals.
Homework:
Writing - Make sure p. 29 is ready for tomorrow.
Reading - Read through p. 138 and be prepared with your role for McD's tomorrow.

Good Day...Sunshine!
The bright sunshine does so much for our moods and attitudes! Hopefully, it affected our thinking as well.
Language Arts groups took a test on irregular plurals in Spelling. We practiced the words in group games yesterday, but we were rusty on a few. Hopefully, we were able to nail them on the test, with additional practice last night. Group 202 finished reading the story and had a discussion with Mrs. Mac. Group 204 took their test on Born Worker.
Sequential order was our topic for Writing (organization) today. We worked on writing directions in groups to give to a new student in our class. Each group gave a set of sequential directions to a place in the building from our classroom. Some were very clear! Others, would have had our new student standing and scratching his head.
Math classes reviewed Greatest Common Factor and Lowest Common Multiple. Mrs. Haddox showed us another way to find the GCF using a goal post. She was pleasantly pleased with our remembrance of how to find both! We also reviewed Mean, Median, Mode, and Range. Practicing using the calculators, we found the answers using some pretty large numbers! Remember to continue to show examples on the PSSA vocabulary worksheet and to study your PSSA folder 15 minutes each night. Tomorrow we will review exponents, divisibility, and number properties.
Homework:
Language Arts - Complete p. 29 in Writing. Read through p. 138 in Good Night, Maman. Complete your role for Thursday.
Social Studies - Complete your new vocabulary cards. Also, your Travel Journal assignment is due on March 14th.

Rockin' Robots!
Today, we enjoyed an afternoon assembly, courtesy of our P.F.O.!
Math classes reviewed the concept of Perimeter today. What would the perimeter be for the above rectangle if the width was 7 cm and the length was 14 cm? Bring your answer to school tomorrow. We also reviewed changing percents into fractions and back again. Remember to review your PSSA Math Folders nightly.
Today, Language Arts classes reviewed the story Born Worker. We discussed the elements of plot in relation to this story. We found that the conflict was that Arnie finds jobs, but Jose does all the work. The action rises when Jose becomes more and more unhappy as he cleans a pool for Mr. Clemens and Arnie watches. The climax happens when Mr. Clemens falls. Jose helps, but Arnie runs away. At the resolution, Jose realizes what Arnie is really like, and he knows that they are very different in important ways.
