April Fools!

There were a lot of April Fools jokes happening today! There were missing white board markers, missing texts and pencils, and even some taped receivers! We were kept on our toes today!
In Math classes, we continued ratios. We saw that finding equivalent ratios was very similar to finding equivalent fractions.
Reading classes had their test and Spelling Tests.

Homework:
Math (202) R 6-1 and P 6-1; (204) R 6-2 and P 6-2

Casey at the Bat!

Today, our team read Casey at the Bat! It was fun to read this humorous narrative poem, and with opening day on the way, this one was so appropriate. Above, you will enjoy listening as James Earl Jones, a great actor and narrator, reads Casey at the Bat.

The theme of baseball continued in Language Arts centers in the afternoon. For a leveled reading activity, and further practice with the skill of summarizing, we read a story by Steven Otfinoski called Home Run King.

In Social Studies, we reviewed our travel journals. We received a new travel journal assignment and were able to begin the research during stations today.

During tomorrow's McD's Cafe, we will be filming our interpretation of the classic comedy skit 'Who's on First?'. We've rehearsed a bit in class, but everyone needs to be ready by tomorrow with all lines memorized and ready to perform.

Science classes completed a lab today! We found the mass of water, salt water, and rubbing alcohol. We found that although all three vials were filled to 40 ml, the mass of each liquid was different. For homework, we are to find the density of each and tomorrow we will graph our findings!

Homework:
Language Arts - Rehearse your lines for 'Who's on First?' Tomorrow, we will film during McD's Cafe! Share the poem, Casey at the Bat, with someone at home!

Social Studies - Travel journal (2nd African country) due on April 19th.

Science: Complete lab; (204) complete final draft of graph

Density and Mixed Numbers!

Science classes today prepared for a lab that will take place tomorrow. We learned about density, float height, mass, and volume. Tomorrow we will use that knowledge to compare the densities of different liquids.
Math classes reviewed multiplying mixed numbers and learned how to divide mixed numbers. We need to first write each number as an improper fraction, find the reciprocal of the divisor, rewrite as a multiplication problem, look for common factors, simplify, and then multiply! Whew! There are many steps, so it is important to take your time and check your work.
Today we read "Winners Never Quit" and we filled in a spider web with the main ideas and details. We practiced our skits for "Who's on First."
Homework:

Take Me Out to the Ballgame!

Ahhhh, spring is here, and there is no better time for this week's classic narrative poem Casey At the Bat by Ernest Lawrence Thayer. Throughout the week, we'll be reviewing the target skill of Summarizing, learning more about the game of baseball, and trying out our theatrical skills with Abbott and Costello's classic comedy routine "Who's On First?". We received our scripts today, and everyone had fun trying different ways to deliver the lines. Each of us will be filmed in costume at Thursday's McD's Cafe. We look forward to sharing this!

Science classes today got quite creative in the computer lab! We created posters illustrating our science vocabulary. We used suffixes, prefixes, roots, and examples to show the meaning of our words. Math classes continued changing mixed numbers into improper fractions and multiplied. We need to remember to slow down, for there are many steps in multiplying mixed numbers.

Homework:

Language Arts - Memorize your lines for "Who's On First?". Filming will take place on Thursday. Share your new 'Family Times' and complete trace +2 spelling practice.
Math - Kidblog assignment and pg. 57 in workbook
Science - Finish Science Vocabulary poster
