5 Themes of Geography
- Watch more Videos at Vodpod.

Tomorrow is a teacher in-service day! There will be no school for students! Also, share your test packet and the contents of your Friday folder with your parents!

Mrs. Kyle paid a visit to our team today! She talked with us about how we can help others and ourselves. She shared with us reasons why we may want to visit her throughout the school year. We enjoyed her role play activities. She made us feel very comfortable, and we're looking forward to her visits.

Today in Language Arts, we worked on completing our first writing prompt, and we practiced sequencing with our creative storyboards. Our Grown-up rule stories are really entertaining! We'll be typing them on Monday!

The 5 Themes of Geography were reviewed today in class. We viewed a video on the themes from United Streaming, and we put the finishing touches on our collages. The song on the video above will help you to remember the themes.

The students took a Science test today on the Layers of the Earth. On Monday, we will be creating a poster depicting the layers. Next week we will exploring the plates of the Earth.

Still rounding in Math! The students rounded products and quotients and learned how to set up their paper for Math homework. Next week we will be conquering word problems.

Homework:
Social Studies - Review your study guide! Quiz on Monday on The 5 Themes of Geography.
Math (202) - Worksheet page 6...show your work.

Wonderful Wednesday!

We are successfully making it over the hump day! The students enjoyed the afternoon filled with exciting learning centers. One of the centers review the Earth's layers for a test in science tomorrow. The students also enjoyed working on their Freedom Poems in the computer center.

In Math, we estimated with products and quotients up to ten-thousand. The students reviewed their homework by putting the problems on the white board and we discussed the procedures.

Science was full of energy as we had a review game to prepare us for our test tomorrow on the Earth's Layers. As you study, remember to review the diagram on the Earth's Layers.

Do you know what self-control is? Today in Wellness, we discussed the importance of self-control and described strategies for coping with anger, stress, and grief.

We missed Mrs. McIlvaine today! We send her our well-wishes.

The Social Studies worked in groups to make a collage. They used pictures that they brought in from home depicting examples of the five themes of geography.

In Reading, the students were brainstorming and creating a rough draft for a prompt they were given.

Homework:
Science: Test on the Earth's Layers
Wellness: (204) page 319, 1-3
(202) page 325, 1-3
Social Studies: Freedom Poem

National Anthem Day!

Today, everywhere you looked, students at N.S.I.S. were proudly wearing red, white, and blue! We were celebrating National Anthem Day! To begin our day, Mrs. Graziano gathered the chorus in her room, and they sang the National Anthem during our opening exercises! Their voices were beautiful!

In Language Arts, we took our first quizzes, worked on our storyboards to retell 'Tony and the Snark' in sequence, and began to create our Secret Rule writing. Some of us can't wait to let the TRUTH be known in our stories!

Both groups have now reviewed all of the 5 Themes of Geography and are preparing to create collages of examples! We will have a quiz on these themes next week! Please continue to review your study guides.

In Math today, we learned about estimating sums and differences. The students had fun trying their hand at estimating and clustering. Tomorrow, we will explore estimating products and quotients.

Science class took a trip to the center of the earth and discovered the differences in each layer. Through the streaming videos and Promethean Board, the students took notes on the different layers. Wednesday we will review the layers and Thursday will have a test.

Homework:
Language Arts - Storyboards are due completed tomorrow. Work on draft in Writing.
Math - page 17, 8-23
Social Studies - Find or draw 4 pictures per theme for tomorrow.

Remembering 9/11

Today, in Social Studies, our team reviewed the events of 9/11/2001. We listened to parts of a book written for children called Understanding September 11th: Answering Questions about the Attacks on America by Mitch Frank. As a group, we discussed the events and thought about what it means to us to be free. We then worked on a Freedom Poem assignment to express our American Patriotism. We will proudly display these poems in our hallway for Open House.

Tony and the Snark was reviewed during Language Arts time. We created storyboards to review the story and the skill of sequencing. We also played a game with our spelling list. Everyone on the team hopes to ace the first tests tomorrow.

In science, we had "Mantle Monday" and learned all about the layers of the Earth through a Flip Chart on the Promethean Board. The students enjoyed many short interactive videos explaining the different layers. Do you know what layer protects us from the inner heat of the Earth?

Round 'em up! In Math, we learned about rounding whole numbers. To remember how to round, we learned that if the "number is five or more, up the score; four or less, let it rest."

Homework:

Math - Page 4 (both sides).
Social Studies - Please bring your 5 Themes of Geography pictures to class (204)
