Rested and Ready!
Our class came in rested and ready today! It seemed like everyone was paying close attention in class and working hard! No behavior checks were given, and the group as a whole did so well. Two Surprise Scramble letters were awarded to the group for being so on the ball!
In Language Arts, the students reviewed the skill of determining sequence of a passage. We practiced with a short story about a boy learning to improve his swimming skills, and looked for clue words that would help us with time order. Students also received new vocabulary that will be a part of the story we will read tomorrow. Everyone is looking forward to reading Tony and the Snark in class tomorrow. We will participate in a sequencing activity with storyboards after reading.
Finding absolute location was the skill for the day in Social Studies. We worked on using latitude and longitude lines to find locations of various cities. The activity reminded us of a popular game called Battleship!
In Math, we reviewed standard form, word form, short word form, and expanded form for place value. We discussed the difference between place and value of a number. To help all of this information to gel, we learned a song to the tune of The Adams Family! Please ask your child to share this with you tonight!
Ms. Scheidler assigned each student a famous scientist to research. We will be learning about their many accomplishments through information she has provided and information available to us on the internet.
Homework:
Reading: Study new vocabulary.
Math: Riddle sheet (both sides)
Social Studies: 1-11 (top of sheet only)
Spelling: spelling practice p. 2
