Food for Thought!

Our team had a great day! We were happy about our successful Open House, and today we were able to attend our school's Book Fair! Thank you to all parents who attended our school last night and to those who have given their time to make the Book Fair a success.

Our study of Geography continued today with a closer look at globes and maps. Today we analyzed the problem of accurately representing a globe on a flat map. We looked at various map projections and discussed distortions. New vocabulary words were given and the students are to review these tonight. In our next class, we will practice finding exact location using latitude and longitude measurement.

In Language Arts, we reviewed our story Teammates and discussed our author's viewpoint based on words and phrases he used in the biography. The students determined that the author admired Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese. The author also wanted to express his love for the game and his opinion about segregation and prejudice. Great discussion today! Thoughtful reading by the class.

We were puzzled in Science class! We used the world as our template and cut out the plates and use them as puzzle pieces to see if they could fit together. The students discussed the movement of the plates and suggested where the plates might move to in hundreds of years.

Math class continued to pull apart word problems. We used the Promethean Board to help solve a problem that we had in the Learning Centers. Tonight, we are completing some review problems to help us on a math quiz that we will have either tomorrow or Monday on sections 1-1 through 1-7.

Homework:
Social Studies: Study vocabulary words
Math: Complete problems 1-15 on page 22 and answers letters H and I
Review for Math Quiz on Sections 1-1 through 1-7
