Wilma Unlimited

In Language Arts, we began to explore vocabulary and build background knowledge for our new biographical selection, Wilma Unlimited. The story is about an athlete, Wilma Rudolph, who earned a place on the U.S. Olympic team in 1960. As a child, Wilma suffered from polio, which caused one of her legs to be paralyzed. We are looking forward to learning more about Wilma Rudolph's life and the road that led her to the Olympic Games.

Our new novel, From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, seems interesting! Throughout the story, we will work on increasing our vocabulary! In addition to our regular cafe roles each week, we will be responsible for understanding and applying selected words. Today's list will be practiced using a crossword puzzle. The list includes expenditures, percolator, companion, elegant suburbs, indecent, pamphlet, commute, stowaway, quarrel, temptation, complicated, tyranny, traveler's check, injustice, stifle, jostle, and thorough. Since most of us have read the first two chapters, we've seen these words. Hopefully, in the weeks ahead, we will make them our own by trying to incorporate them into our everyday language.

Today, we each received our packets of newly created European Country trading cards. We trimmed them and colored necessary graphics, such as the flags. Tomorrow, we will exchange with our classmates and learn more about each country.

Homework:
Reading - Practice book p. 122. Also complete your crossword puzzle for vocabulary practice.
Math - Practice page E60
Wellness - Health summary due next Tuesday.
