Jackets for Books?

Why would books need jackets in this beautiful weather? (haha) Today, we began a final project in lieu of a book report for our novel. We began creating book jackets, filled with key information about The Wednesday Wars. The cover will depict an important scene, the inside flaps - a summary, including information about the setting, plot, climax, and resolution, key information about characters and their roles. The back will include ten unforgettable quotes. We were able to get a good start on our work, and we took the final AR test for the novel.

In Social Studies, we explored maps and information about natural resources found in Europe and Russia, as well as how they are put to use. We are wrapping up our work with the chapter.

Homework:
Reading - Book jacket is due this Friday.
Social Studies - Pg. 29, question 1,3,4,5
Science - What can you do with a field of corn? Answer in complete sentences and site evidence.
Long-term - Math board game is due on March 27th.
Wellness - DARE work is due this Wednesday. Chapter 4, Lesson 3 outline due next Monday.

Today was a very groovy day! We spent the day celebrating the '60s, the time period of our recently finished novel 'The Wednesday Wars.' What great fun! Students and teachers dressed for the day in our best '60s outfits! We visited a variety of stations where we learned about history, technology, music, art, entertainment, and life. Our parents really supported us through donations of treats, paper products, historical information, and TIME! It was a great team effort! Everyone seemed to enjoy the day and learn a few things along the way.
Have a great weekend! Relax!

Be sure to share your group pictures with your parents/guardians!

Day #3 - Going Strong!

We are now nearing the end of P.S.S.A. Testing. Today, we completed Section 4 - Reading and Section 5 - Math. Tomorrow, we'll finish up with Section 6 - Reading! Hang in there! Get some fresh air, rest, and eat a good breakfast in the morning. We are nearing the finish line, but we're not there yet!

Day #2...Whew!

Day #2 and we're going strong! This morning we took Section 2 - Reading and this afternoon, Section 3 - Math. It was a long day of testing, but the breaks and drinks helped everyone to do what needed to be done.

Homework:
All D.A.R.E. work won't be due for another week. Hopefully, none of it will need to be taken home due to having some extra time between tests.

REST AND EAT A GOOD BREAKFAST! ANOTHER BIG DAY IS JUST AROUND THE BEND!

One Day of Testing... Done!

Congratulations to the class for working hard during the first testing session! We completed Section 1 - Math this morning, and we're feeling good about it. Tomorrow, we have Sections 2 and 3 - Reading and Math on the schedule. Our only homework assignment this evening is to relax, go to bed at a decent time, and eat a good breakfast so that we can give our best. Enjoy the longer period of daylight tonight after school!

Time was given in class to complete the D.A.R.E. work due on Wednesday.

THANK YOU TO CISPO FOR THE WATER WE ENJOYED DURING TESTING! IT WAS JUST WHAT WE NEEDED!

It's All in How You Look at Things!

School is so interesting! In addition to the many things we do and learn in our classrooms, we're able to go to Related Arts classes that really s-t-r-e-t-c-h our imaginations and abilities. One such class is Tech. Ed. with Mrs. Carroll and her student teacher Miss Hoover. In the slideshow above, you'll see us learning and practicing our Orthographic Projection drawings. Orthographic Projection is a drawing technique used to represent a three-dimensional object in two dimensions. It uses multiple views of the object, including front view, top view, and right side view. It requires skill and a plan! We're enjoying our learning in Tech. Ed.

Cafe went well today! We had great discussions about May, and Mrs. Mac will be sharing June (the final chapter) tomorrow. Some things that made us happy in this chapter included Mr. Baker contacting Mrs. Baker through telegram, letting her know he was safe, and Holling helping his sister come home after she had decided to run away. Our records are just about finished, and there are some very creative theme songs for this book! '60s Day is fast approaching, and we thank all the generous parents who have volunteered their time, skill, and items for the stations.

Our class meeting was held this afternoon! We discussed random acts of kindness, and what this can mean to others. Our class has prepared a project as a gesture to spread kindness through the school during the coming week. We hope it brings smiles during this week of testing.

We've missed having Library and were glad to go today. We were able to exchange our books for new ones!

Have a great evening!
