An American Musical!

Thank you, PFO! Today, we were treated to a special musical treat called City of Steel - An American Musical Melting Pot! Not only did we hear music from our country's earliest beginnings, but we also had an opportunity to learn where this music originated and volunteer for dances! We really enjoyed this special assembly!

In the afternoon, our 6th grade was treated to a movie called Tangled. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the movie with our friends from other classes.

Happy Easter to everyone! We hope the break from school is full of fun!

Homework:
Science - Element project is due on May 2nd.
Language Arts - Typing of stories will conclude next Tuesday. Read pages 49-125 for next Thursday's McD's Cafe and complete your role.

Pictures of Team USS Enterprise!

Drafts of our newest writings about our favorite places are nearly complete and are great reading! Our writings are titled similar to our current novel Pictures of Hollis Woods. As Hollis moves toward her future, she often reflects on "pictures" of her past. She yearns for a place to belong. As an artistic and creative young lady, she sees these pictures of places and people who have touched her life with great clarity. She has drawn each one! Our special places have been drawn with our words.

In Science today, we continued our discussion of the elements and the Periodic Table. Today we explored the atomic structure of the elements through viewing an informative United Streaming video. We took notes and discussed the different atoms we learned. Math classes reviewed for our proportion test tomorrow. Mrs. Haddox is impressed on how prepared we are. Wellness classes are to search their kitchens for three snacks. Please record the vitamins, iron, calcium, thiamin, and niacin from the nutritional labels. We will be using this information to create a circle or bar graph next week.

Homework:
Language Arts: We will finish typing drafts for Pictures of (your name)tomorrow. Make sure you've written all five paragraphs! Read pages 49-125 in Pictures of Hollis Woods and complete your role for next Thursday. Study your vocabulary and review the story Spring Paint for tomorrow's quiz. Study spelling words given last week. Quiz tomorrow.
Math: Review for Math test tomorrow on Chapter 6. Complete "Proper Proportions" worksheet
Wellness: Search for three snacks and record the nutritional information on each (due Tuesday for room 202 and Thursday for 204)
Science: Complete Discussion Questions and "Navigating the Periodic Table Questions" (Graded Homework); Element project due May 2nd.

Periodic Table!

Science students continued to learn about the world of elements. Today we discovered how the Periodic Table is divided. Dmitry Mendeleyev, a Russian scientist in 1868, arranged the elements according to atomic mass, and discovered a repetitive pattern to several properties, including density, metal character, and the ability to react to elements. Any repeating pattern is called periodic. His table proved to be very successful!

Math classes review solving proportions with cross products. We are becoming more successful in our procedures. Sometimes the word problems are causing us confusion; but, with more practice, we should be able to recognize how to set up the proportions more easily.

Today in Writing, we worked on developing lead paragraphs for our Favorite Place writings. Many of us have written very interesting leads to hook our audience! The stories are getting better with each new paragraph. Tomorrow, we will wrap-up our drafts with our concluding paragraph!

Group 204 was able to read our story Spring Paint, which is an autobiography written in a very interesting fashion, using myths and symbolism. Our time was limited today, but we will continue to review the story tomorrow.

Sergeant Cross visited our classroom for D.A.R.E. today! He reviewed many of our lessons in preparation for the upcoming D.A.R.E. test. One of the most important things he shared that will help us stay out of trouble is to choose friends who do not get involved with such things. We have learned so much from him, and we look forward to his visits each week.
